Executive Talent Intelligence Brief™

Quarterly U.S. hiring intelligence for RIAs, family offices, multi-family offices, trust and estate businesses, and wealth platforms.

U.S. executive hiring intelligence for RIAs, family offices, multi-family offices, trust and estate businesses, and wealth platforms.

September 2026, in short. RIA acquisitions set a first-half record in 2026, with 262 transactions on Echelon Partners' count, while the advisor population shrank by 4,000 in 2025 on AdvizorPro's count. Our read is that the leadership seats that open first are the ones that make an acquisition work after it closes.

Edited by Karen Childers, Director, Business Development / Branding & Content, Lyneer Search Group. Last updated 23 September 2026.

Written for the people who own leadership hiring decisions in U.S. wealth management.

Once a quarter we read the public record on the wealth management executive market and tell you what it means before you open a search. Executive moves, the pay ranges employers are actually publishing, the transactions we expect to create hiring, trust and tax leadership, and our 30, 60 and 90 day read.

The September edition is below, open to read. Subscribe and we'll send you January.

What did the September 2026 wealth management edition find?

  • What did the September 2026 wealth management edition find?

How many RIA acquisitions were there in the first half of 2026?

  • What leadership roles do RIAs hire after an acquisition?

DOur assessment. An acquisition puts a capacity question to the buyer: who makes the acquired firm run on one compliance program and one data model.

Our hypothesis. The roles that answer it may include an integration COO, a chief compliance officer with multi-entity Form ADV experience and a head of data engineering. The edition says what would support that, and we'll report back in January against publicly announced appointments.

The pressure behind it is concentration: 24 repeat buyers accounted for 62.5% of Q2 deal volume, on Echelon's count.

  • Is the number of financial advisors growing or shrinking?

On AdvizorPro's count of producing advisors, it fell in 2025. AdvizorPro counts producing financial advisors from SEC and FINRA registration data, and recorded more than 57,000 exits against fewer than 53,000 entrants, a net loss of about 4,000, with net losses in 4 of the last 5 years. Its broker-dealer channel figure, a net loss of about 4,000 advisors to other channels, is a separate count of movement between channels.

The Investment Adviser Association and COMPLY count a different population, SEC-registered firms, and reported non-clerical employment at those firms up to 1.1 million in 2025. Neither dataset measures total wealth management employment. Cerulli reported on 4 August 2026 that 35% of financial advisors, managing 40% of industry assets, plan to retire within 10 years.

  • What do wealth management employers post for senior tax and advisory roles?

In a convenience sample of 30 employer pay ranges, read on 2 September 2026 and still live on 28 September, the highest tax range was a single family office's senior tax manager for international work, at $400,000 to $475,000 in total cash. Five tax manager and senior tax manager postings at RIAs, aggregators and a multi-family office ran from $82,800 to $190,000, 2 stated as base salary and 3 with the basis unstated. A national RIA aggregator posted a senior wealth advisor at $150,000 to $350,000, basis unstated, the same band in New York and in Reno.

These ranges describe those employers' roles only. Every published range is listed by row in the edition's posted-pay register.

  • Do wealth management firms publish pay ranges for C-suite roles?

In the September 2026 sample, none did. None of the 30 employer pay ranges was for a chief financial, operating, investment or compliance officer, or a head of data. That describes the employers we searched. One chief compliance officer posting was collected on 2 September and came down before it could be re-verified, so it's held out.

  • How is the pay data collected?

We read the pay ranges employers publish in their own job postings, on the employer's careers site or applicant tracking system. Two independent research passes collected them on 2 September 2026 and reconciled them on 3 September, and every posting was re-read live on 28 September. Only ranges that still matched are published. A range counts as base only where the posting says base, total cash is kept separate, and nothing is averaged. The result is a convenience sample of what these employers advertised.

Published ranges cluster in the states and cities that require pay disclosure, so coverage is thin in Florida, Texas and Oklahoma, the Carolinas, the Southeast and much of the Ohio Valley.

About Lyneer Search Group

The executive search firm for insurance, wealth management, and financial services. Founded in 1993, headquartered in Holmdel, New Jersey.
Every search starts with the industry. A P&C carrier and an RIA both need a CFO, but the job is completely different. That context decides whether a leader succeeds or struggles, and it's why we chose depth over breadth at the start.
In wealth management we recruit across finance, investment, operations, risk and compliance, tax, and data. Our searches are confidential and we don't publish client names.
