Commercial Finance Controller

Location: United States ·

Reports to: US Chief Financial Officer

The role

A UK-headquartered specialty insurer is building out its US commercialbusiness and needs a finance leader to own controllership for it. The rolesits between two jobs that usually live apart. You keep US financialreporting clean and consistent with the parent company’s Groupstandards, and you sit close enough to the business to shape how itprices products, evaluates deals, and decides where to invest.

So it’s a hybrid mandate. Part controller, part commercial finance partner. You own the reporting and the controls, and your numbers reach the tablewhile the big calls are still open.

The organization

Our client is a UK-headquartered specialty insurer growing its UScommercial platform. Results report up to a UK parent, so US numbershave to reconcile to Group standards on the parent’s calendar. The USbusiness is still scaling. That means real ownership now, and room to builda team as the platform grows.

What you’ll own

You’ll run US financial reporting end to end for the commercial businessand keep it consistent with the UK FP&A and Group reporting calendar.

Beyond the close, you’ll:

  • Build and maintain the financial models behind pricing, productperformance, and investment decisions
  • Translate US results into clear reads for both US leadership and UKstakeholders
  • Hold the control environment: US GAAP compliance, internal controls, audit readiness, and coordination of internal and external audits
  • Own working capital, including cash flow forecasting and balancesheet management
  • Partner with commercial, underwriting, operations, and procurementto connect financial outcomes to business strategy
  • Run budgeting, forecasting, and 1 to 3 year planning
  • Spot financial risks, variances, and control gaps early, and escalatethem
  • Improve reporting accuracy, financial systems, and data quality overtime

Your planning horizon runs across three speeds: monthly and quarterlyclose, the annual budget and forecast, and 1 to 3 year planning that supports investment decisions.

This is a hybrid individual contributor and strategic partner role. You’ll do the analysis yourself, influence leaders with it, and may manage junior finance staff as the US business scales.

What we’re looking for

  • 10+ years in finance, controllership, FP&A, or commercial finance
  • Strong command of financial reporting, US GAAP, accountingprinciples, and internal controls
  • Experience in a global or multinational business, ideally with UKreporting exposure
  • A track record supporting commercial decisions: pricing, productcosting, margin analysis, and working capital management
  • Advanced financial modeling, with strong financial systems and Excelskills
  • The judgment to handle sensitive information with discretion, and thecommunication skills to work across functions and time zones
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration
  • CPA or equivalent professional certification preferred
