Position Summary
We are seeking an Underwriting Assistant to provide underwriting and administrative support for assigned accounts across Energy Casualty, General Casualty, and Excess & Surplus Property lines. This role supports underwriters throughout the policy lifecycle, including account setup, quote and binder processing, policy and endorsement issuance, and broker communications.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, process-driven, and comfortable working in a fast-paced underwriting environment where accuracy, responsiveness, and service quality are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting & Submission Support
- Partner with assigned Underwriters to review account submission data and identify missing or incomplete information.
- Coordinate with broker partners to obtain required documentation and details needed for processing.
- Support account setup activities and ensure submissions are organized for underwriting review.
Quote-to-Bind-to-Issue Processing
- Work in tandem with Underwriting to confirm issuance instructions for quotes, binders, policies, endorsements, notices, and related documents.
- Execute coding and issuance tasks accurately and within service timelines.
- Assist underwriters with day-to-day processing tasks to keep workflow moving efficiently.
Data Entry, Quality Control & Systems Accuracy
- Perform data entry and policy transaction updates in internal systems according to defined standards.
- Conduct quality control checks to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of records and issued documents.
- Help maintain clean, reliable policy data and transaction documentation for audit and reporting readiness.
Broker & Stakeholder Communication
- Generate and send broker correspondence electronically (email), including transaction updates and follow-up requests.
- Provide professional, service-oriented support to external broker partners and internal underwriting teams.
- Escalate issues appropriately when requirements, timelines, or documentation standards are at risk.
Operational Support
- Perform ad hoc operational duties to support underwriting teams and maintain business continuity during peak volumes.
- Contribute to process consistency and continuous improvement in underwriting support workflows.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of insurance industry experience (required).
- Demonstrated ability to work accurately in high-volume, deadline-driven environments.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality.
- Effective communication skills and a client-service mindset for broker-facing interactions.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Self-motivated with interest in growing underwriting knowledge and skills.
- Degree-level qualification required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting casualty and/or E&S property underwriting workflows.
- Familiarity with insurance policy administration systems and transaction processing standards.
- Exposure to policy issuance, endorsements, and broker communication protocols.
