Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Program Accountant to support the accounting and financial operations of our growing Property & Casualty insurance programs business.

Reporting directly to the Controller, this role is responsible for overseeing program accounting activities, supporting reinsurance accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining strong relationships with internal teams, MGAs, brokers, cedants, reinsurers, and business partners.

The ideal candidate brings strong insurance accounting expertise, experience working with MGA programs and bordereaux reporting, and the ability to collaborate across accounting, operations, treasury, and reinsurance functions.

What Does a Senior Program Accountant Do?

The Senior Program Accountant oversees the accounting of insurance programs, reconciles MGA and reinsurance activity, monitors receivables and payables, supports operational onboarding, and ensures accurate recording of premiums, claims, commissions, taxes, and related program transactions within the general ledger.

This position works closely with Operations, Treasury, Reinsurance, and Finance teams to maintain financial accuracy and support business growth.


Key Responsibilities


Program Accounting

  • Support Operations with onboarding new insurance programs.
  • Reconcile Managing General Agent (MGA) bordereaux reporting to system-generated information and work with MGAs and Operations to resolve variances.
  • Ensure premiums, claims, commissions, premium taxes, and program-related accruals are accurately recorded within the general ledger.
  • Reconcile Broker and Cedant Statements of Account.
  • Verify calculations of profit commissions and sliding-scale commissions when applicable.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable aging and work with partners to resolve outstanding balances and reconcile differences.
  • Collaborate with Treasury regarding payments and identification of cash activity.


Reinsurance Support

  • Support the reinsurance team in validating reinsurance contract setup within company systems.
  • Work closely with reinsurers and internal teams to ensure required information is delivered accurately and timely.
  • Monitor reinsurance recoveries and reinsurance payables.


Financial Operations & Projects

  • Participate in special projects and ad hoc assignments as needed.
  • Support budget preparation and forecasting activities.
  • Assist colleagues with program-related accounting inquiries.
  • Support technology initiatives and process improvement efforts.
  • Perform assigned internal control responsibilities.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with a concentration in Accounting.
  • Seven or more years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Property & Casualty insurance industry experience.
  • Experience working with MGA programs and bordereaux reporting.
  • Knowledge of Workday, Workiva, or Duck Creek.
  • Experience partnering with technology development teams.
  • Understanding of reinsurance accounting processes and reconciliations.


Location & Work Arrangement

This role is based in Tampa, Florida and follows a hybrid schedule requiring three days per week in the office.
