Director of Technology & Innovation

Lead the first technology build-out at an established firm serving the insurance industry, starting with AI search over decades of research.

  • Industry: Insurance: research and advisory
  • Function: Technology and data
  • Works with: C-suite
  • Working model: On-site, Hartford metro

The role This is the firm's first technology leadership seat. You'll own the move of its research archive from file servers to the cloud, set data standards, and build AI search and chat so analysts can query decades of insurance research in plain language. A client-facing version follows in phase 2.

You'll work directly with the C-suite, decide what to buy and what to build, and manage offshore developers as the work needs them. The senior partners have backed the rebuild, so the job is execution and adoption.

The organization Our client is an established, profitable firm whose research, capital markets and advisory work serves the insurance industry. It has built a deep research archive over decades and wants that archive working harder for analysts and clients.

What you'll do

Infrastructure and data

  • Migrate the research archive from file servers to cloud storage in the Microsoft stack
  • Set data governance and quality standards so the archive is ready for AI
  • Connect new tools to the firm's existing research platforms

AI and automation

  • Build AI search and chat over the archive for internal users
  • Automate research work such as data extraction, report generation and comparative analysis
  • Replace manual tagging and data entry so analysts spend their time on analysis

Clients and adoption

  • Build a client-facing research chat tool in phase 2
  • Partner with research and deal teams to find the highest-payoff automation
  • Lead adoption across the firm

Year 1 goals: complete the migration, launch internal AI search and chat, and automate 3 to 5 research workflows.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's in computer science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience. Master's in computer science, data science or information systems, or a technical MBA, preferred
  • 5+ years in technical product management or engineering leadership

  • Data migration and infrastructure modernization
  • Python, JavaScript and modern web frameworks
  • Cloud platforms, with Azure preferred
  • Document processing with tools like LangChain and the OpenAI APIs
  • Data security and compliance requirements
  • Experience both buying and building technical solutions
  • Clear communication with non-technical stakeholders, and a record of changing how a traditional organization works
  • Preferred: financial services, investment banking or insurance; research publishing or content management systems; SharePoint migrations; client-facing data products; management consulting

Compensation and benefits$200,000 to $270,000 base salary, plus a performance bonus.
