The VP, Claims Manager leads specialty program claims oversight at [Company], serving as the senior technical and strategic bridge between the Claims Department and its business partners — underwriting, MGAs, TPAs, reinsurers, brokers, insureds, and claimants. This is a senior leadership role within a growing E&S and specialty programs platform.
- Provide strategic oversight of claims across all specialty program lines, ensuring resolution consistent with program guidelines, reinsurance terms, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage and audit MGA and TPA claims handling performance — establishing audit protocols, conducting reviews, and implementing corrective action plans.
- Develop and enforce claims governance frameworks, including reserving philosophies, large loss protocols, and litigation management guidelines.
- Partner with underwriting, actuarial, and program management to analyze loss trends and inform program renewal decisions.
- Serve as the senior escalation point on complex, high-severity, and coverage-disputed claims; coordinate with coverage counsel and reinsurers.
- Monitor and report on claims KPIs, reserve adequacy, and emerging exposures to senior leadership and external reinsurers.
- Evaluate the claims capabilities of prospective MGA partners during onboarding and program committee reviews.
- Represent [Company] at industry events; stay current on E&S market trends, regulatory developments, and claims best practices.
- Support the Chief Claims Officer with daily oversight of Professional Staff and review of existing and future claims processes.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of insurance and/or claims handling experience (commercial claims strongly preferred).
- Working knowledge of multi-state statutes, including good faith claim handling regulations and guidelines.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and major claims systems.
